Construction has begun for the louvre lens atop an abandoned mine field near the cityof lille in northern france. Co-designed by tokyo-based SANAA, New york-based imrey culbert,and Paris-based mosbach paysagistes, the new branch of the louvre will span 300,000 squarefeet of new construction, devoting over 75,000 square feet of galleries and visitable storage areas for hundreds of treasures from the louvre’s collection. Terry Pawson Architects’ VISUAL & the George Bernard Shaw Theatre provides Ireland with a significant new arts space to showcase contemporary visual arts and theatre of national and international importance. Unique to Ireland, the new building features an expansive gallery space with a ceiling height of12m to accommodate large-scale sculpture and installation, the scale of which has not been easily accommodated in Ireland to date. Spanish firm herreros arquitectos won first prize forin the international architectural competition for the munch museum in Oslo, Norway. Following is the jury verdict;
Lambda ( Herreros Arquitectos) creates a generous invitation both to the museum and to the public access of the area in general. the location of the museum on paulsenkaia leaves the area south of the opera open to a public park and recreational landmark in the middle of the bay overlooking the fjord, in close contact both with the opera and the museum. the project strengthens the river mouth, opens the landscape and gives public access to both sides of the river all the way out to the fjord. “Car Experience” is a project for a building to be dedicated to the automobile: the car as an object of desire, a world to explore, a technology to study, an article to display and a means to travel around the building.
Here the world of the automobile intersects with the human and organic world creating a new tectonic structure with methods differing from the usual flat open spaces, squares… all on a human scale. Here everything is geared to the automobile – the car is the point of reference.
