
NURTURING ACTIVE GLOBAL CITIZENS
Perkins Eastman’s latest project on the Concordia International School Shanghai (CISS) campus is a new 12,720 sm (129,200 sf) high school. It is the newest addition to the school’s multi-building education campus. Completed through a joint effort of the firm’s New York and Shanghai offices, this is the fourth phase of a series of planning and design projects completed for the school. The 10-acre campus also includes an elementary school and performing arts center, also designed by Perkins Eastman. As the culmination of a 10-year, multi-phased expansion of the world-class education campus, the high school is a fitting architectural expression of the evolution of design, learning, and sustainability. “Mother Earth” is the winning design competition entry for a kindergarten school and connected public spaces that will be built in Bisceglie, south Italy. The project, commissioned by the local municipality and sponsored by the Department of Architecture and Landscape of the Italian Ministry of Culture, is expected to be completed in July 2011. REX WINS KORTRIJK CENTRAL LIBRARY COMPETITION
Design Combines Functions of Library, Life-Long Learning Center and Music Center
NEW YORK, August 4 — REX and Principal in Charge Joshua Prince-Ramus have been named the winner of the BibLLLiotheek competition to build a “Library of the Future” for the city of Kortrijk, Belgium. Extension to Waldorf School designed by Morten Schmidt
schmidt hammer lassen architects has unveiled their new addition to The Rudolf Steiner School in Aarhus, Denmark. The innovative new building, which reflects an interdisciplinary approach to education, has been designed by the practice’s partner Morten Schmidt, a former student of the school.
The Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner founded the Waldorf schools in 1919. These institutions continue to emphasise the role of imagination within learning, integrating artistic, academic and practical elements of education.
