C. F. Møller Architects has won the competition to design a New State Danish Prison that will be in construction until 2016. The facility is designed to house approximately 250 inmates and is conceived as a small village that is integrated with landscape features, animal husbandry and housing within the confines of the perimeter walls.
The client asked the architect to replace the ladder to the loft with permanent stairs in order to improve the connection of the loft to the rest of the house, as he decided to start using it as a study. The site is situated in a corner on a hill within a residential area in Tokyo. The building was commissioned by a married couple with a husband who loves interior design, photography and mountaineering. It is a compact house that makes use of the half-floor difference in height between the front and back of the site.

COOP HIMMELB(L)AU’s Dalian International Conference Center in China is winner of the Wallpaper* Design Award in the category “Best Building Sites”. The magazine Wallpaper belongs to the most influential international print media in the area of architecture and design, and is considered as trendsetter in the trade among architects, designers and other creatives.
Surrounding the site in the outskirts of Tokyo is lush green and a slow-paced environment. The building was commissioned by a family composed of the husband who manages an insurance company, the wife who works as a patternmaker and their two children. With its program, The Cultural Center of European Space Technologies (KSEVT) will supplement the local cultural and social activities of the Arts Center in Vitanje. With its size and typology the existing object already indicates a publicly significant role, but its capacity and technological design no longer suffice for newer collective requirements.
The architectural design for the building of The Cultural Center of European Space Technologies in Vitanje originates from the schematics for the first geostationary space station, or to be more precise its habitation wheel, described in his 1929 book by Herman Potocnik Noordung.
The eCLOUD is a dynamic sculpture inspired by the volume and behavior of an idealized cloud. Made from unique polycarbonate tiles that can fade between transparent and opaque states, its patterns are transformed periodically by real time weather from around the world. Read the rest of this entry »
