Beach Pavilion
Punta del Este, Uruguay
Beach Pavilion (150 m2) is part of a private residential beachfront compound in Uruguay. Located immediately adjacent to the ocean, its primarily function is to provide shade and amenities (a kitchenette, a bathroom and showers) for a family and guests spending the day on the beach.Relieved of the requirement of being completely weather-tight, the pavilion is composed of a series of Eucalyptus branch panels. Branches are applied in patterns of varying density, to regulate the flow of light and air. In addition, two of the pavilion’s panels slide along tracks, opening up or closing down the structure’s relation to the beach.
Eucalyptus branches were chosen as an economic, readily available, local building material.
