CALLISON SELECTED TO DESIGN MIXED-USE COMPLEX FOR NEW URBAN COMMUNITY IN CHENGDU, CHINA

Callison has been selected by major developer China Resources Land Limited (CRLL) to design phase one of 24 City, a new urban community that will house more than 60,000 new residents in the city of Chengdu. The 3.3 million square foot mixed-use project includes an indoor/outdoor retail center and a 38-story office tower. To attract Chengdu’s burgeoning population of young, active professionals, Callison’s design embraces the community’s temperate climate and outdoor recreational lifestyle. The evolutionary hybrid retail complex carefully modulates indoor/outdoor shopping and entertainment among lush landscaping and expansive view terraces. 24 City also includes an indoor skating rink, an 8-screen movie complex and a supermarket in the lower level of the office tower. The restaurants and public garden will remain open after the center closes, offering public events and positioning 24 City as a nighttime destination. The mixed-use center’s respect for sustainable living continues with the interconnected corporate tower that features natural ventilation and sun-shading devices. Callison will complete design development before the Chinese New Year and ground-breaking is scheduled for March 2009.

CRLL and Callison previously worked together on The MIXc, a retail mixed-use destination in the central business district of Hangzhou, one of China’s most dynamic cities. The MIXc features a five-level retail podium, high-end restaurants and a rooftop park with panoramic views of the city.
