Project Description:
“The site is located on mountainside of Izu-san, where Pacific Ocean can be looked down on the south. The untouched wilderness, covered with deciduous broad-leaved trees such as cherry trees and Japanese oaks, gives little level ground.But we saw faint glimmer of architectural possibility along the ridge.The architecture would be used as villa for weekends. Though the completion of this project is dated back to last year, I am reminded by reading publication of Architectural Record that Tham & Videgård Arkitekter has been announcing Design Vangard 2009. Thus, I would like to feature their project here which it is Kalmar Museum of Art. The followings are their statement;
The new Kalmar Museum of Art is the result of a winning proposal in the open international competition in 2004 and will be inaugurated in 2007. Situated in the City Park of the renaissance town of Kalmar, it will be added to a restaurant pavilion dating from the 1930s by Swedish modernist architect Sven-Ivar Lind. The mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb and city councilor Hamit Karakus have officially started the construction of the new Rotterdam Market Hall. The arched building located in the centre of Rotterdam, developed by Provast and designed by MVRDV is a hybrid of public market and apartment building. Completion is set for 2014.
