Yoga Deva (deva is a Sanskrit word, meaning deity) creates an internal sequence of spaces whose primary impulse is to remove the visitor from the exterior visual environmental conditions in every way. Sited within a commercial condominium complex, the building is surrounded by asphalt parking, minimal planted islands of non-native decorative vegetation, and other buildings that are nearly indistinguishable from one to the next. This new internal environment offers an architectural and sequential chiaroscuro to the external strip-mall type reality and prepares the visitor for practice of inward meditation and contemplation. The hills and valleys, and the moments where the two merge, define the Ozarks for us. This juncture is where we chose to build the simple, bar-shape clubhouse—from a north-facing slope over an Osage Indian archaeological zone to an artificial hill. This bridging of two land-forms created an entry portal, a breezeway to the main entry of the clubhouse, that frames the eighteenth green, acts as a threshold to the golf course beyond, and is an event space for golf tournaments. Aligned with its counterpoint, the Razorback Golf Center to the north, the clubhouse has evolved from its initial strategy to become more of a stand-alone structure set at the base of the hill—with its footprint minimally contacting the land, it is, in effect, a covered bridge. Designed by Blank Studio, this slim -two stories house with mezzanine intrigued me by its form, meterials selection and interesting space arrangement. They blend the architecture with its surrounding physically and functionally as well as aesthetically. Here is from the architect;
