Asymptote Architecture, the award-winning, New York-based practice, nears completion of The Yas Hotel project in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Yas Hotel is a 500-room, 85,000-square-meter complex now under construction by Aldar Properties PJSC. Asymptote was awarded the commission to design the buildings and environs from a closed competition two years ago targeting an opening date of October 30, 2009 to coincide with the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Start construction MVRDV Book Mountain
(Spijkenisse, May 28 2009): Today the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the new Public Library for Spijkenissse, near Rottterdam took place. Completion of the building designed by MVRDV is scheduled for fall 2011. The new public library with a surface of 10,000 m² will be an example of energy efficiency and advertise reading through its design of a book mountain.
The new public library with a surface of 10,000 m² will be located in the inner city of Spijkenisse, at the corner of a major throughway, the central market square and the church opposite. In addition to the book collection and reading areas, the library will accommodate commercial facilities, offices, an auditorium, conference rooms, and exhibition spaces.

World’s most sustainable shopping centre announced
ATRIO in Villach, Austria, was named the world’s most sustainable shopping centre at the ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) “night of the stars” gala during the retail spring convention of the international industry organisation at Caesars Palace.
ATRIO, designed by ATP Architects and Engineers for SES Spar European Shopping Centers, had already been awarded the International Design and Development Award in the category for “New Projects between 15,000 and 45,000 sq m”, the major prize of the ICSC Center Build Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, in December 2008. Panamá house splendid designed by Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan & Samanta Cafardo(co-author). Apart from for living, the house has been designed to house and exhibit the art collection of their owner.
The site of Panamá house is located in one of the garden neighborhoods, just some blocks from Paulista, the financial center of the city of São Paulo. The client has an important art collection, above all, modern Brazilian art, and the house was designed to house this collection. It is a small construction with an equally simple program: A caretaker’s house of a property on an island on the North coast of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. The site, at 100 meters above sea level, next to two enormous rocks, already had the old caretaker’s house, one-story house with stone walls and clay roof tiles.The new building has 2 floors, a white suspended box, where the bedroom is and it is possible to see the continent and the São Sebastião Channel. schmidt hammer lassen architects has unveiled their new addition to The Rudolf Steiner School in Aarhus, Denmark. The innovative new building, which reflects an interdisciplinary approach to education, has been designed by the practice’s partner Morten Schmidt, a former student of the school.
The Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner founded the Waldorf schools in 1919. These institutions continue to emphasise the role of imagination within learning, integrating artistic, academic and practical elements of education. Surprisingly at least for me to find that this simple form architecture is the Medical Clinic. This is a small, humble yet communicate its purpose well with community and embedded smoothly in Tenerife urban fabric. Designed by gpy arquitectos, here is from the architects:
This small outpatient clinic is located in the town of Ravelo, a small community in a distinctively rural environment that occupies an outstanding hillside position, on the island of Tenerife.The building has been designed on two levels, both with street-level pedestrian access. Interesting interior designed by xarchitekten from Austria, they create a shop for jewelry shop that simulate the feeling of exploring the treasure chests.
The most interesting trends in the design of shops are concerned with the coherence of the products and their environment – thus the space in which they are presented. Furthermore do we understand shop design as a part of corporate identity, as an instrument of communication for contents and aims.
